Sheltering Hands

Welcome

Sheltering Hands, Inc. is a compassionate and dedicated volunteer based, limited intake pet rescue and adoption, 501c3 non profit organization.
Our goal is to give unwanted and homeless cats and dogs a chance to find love, safety and medical assistance when needed. This goal is accomplished through the volunteer efforts of our board and members with the financial support from private donations and grants. Although the main focus is cats and kittens in Levy and Marion counties in Florida, attempts are made for assistance for a small number of dogs through network channels with other rescues. All of our resident and adoptable felines are currently in private foster homes in the area. Our foster “parents” provide a safe and loving environment for our rescues until adoption or permanent placement is achieved.

Our rescues involve local area “kill” shelter removals, injured or at risk stray populations and when possible assistance with animals needing placement due to death or life changing circumstances of the owner. Because of limited space and resources we do have a limited intake which is based upon adoptions and available housing. Sheltering Hands encourages and participates in spay/neuter programs in the area. In addition, the organization provides educational tools and information about responsible pet care within the community.

Our newest endeavor is participation in a Florida Animal Friend Grant to provide spay/neuter options for pets of  low income families and for feral cats living in Levy County, Florida.
