Every year grants are awarded by Florida Animal Friends, Inc. to Florida 501c3 rescue groups for spay/neuter programs. These grants are funded by the sale of specialty spay/neuter license plates. Grant applications are submitted in April and winners selected based upon the application, the population targeted, need for the outlined program and funds available. Sheltering Hands submitted a proposal targeting Levy County because they lack any low cost spay/neuter or feral cat programs within the county despite being a county with a high population of feral/stray cats and low income families. News that the grant was being awarded to Sheltering Hands was received in mid July. The programs will commence in September and run through next summer or when the $25,000.00 award is used. The funds will be divided between the 2 programs. Applications will be available at several locations in Levy county, email requests, or you can download one below.
